In the past they helped people, both skeptics and not. Sometimes they can be a miracle to when western new medicine failed. If it was a placebo effect then there wouldn’t be skeptics who got better on medicine. Not only that but there were many studies done on alternative medicine having significant advantage over a placebo. Also how can alternative medicine be denied when many of our medicines come from ancient used herbs and plants? I think they both work depending on the case really. It is especially in the older ages when in the east and other countries that medicine was the regular modern conventional medicine that it worked just like ours today. People who fail with western medicine can sometimes heal quickly with eastern, if it is all in the head, why did the people go to the west doctors first and only the eastern much later? I would also like to mention that now in the US there are more diseases and more clinical depression than ever before and our modern ways do a lot of hurt in their own ways.
